We recently completed a stunning transformation of a rear garden, turning it into a picturesque haven. The project began with removing the existing paving, lawn area, and gravel, clearing the way for a fresh, innovative layout.
The Mediterranean Garden
The south-facing side of the property was transformed into a Mediterranean garden featuring a softwood pergola, constructed on-site and erected against the house wall.
The pergola, measuring 2.30m x 2.30m, was set on a newly levelled area, with four planting areas cut out of the gravel and edged with steel edging. A raised planter with a bench, constructed using concrete blocks and then silicone rendered, served as the centrepiece.
The Blue Brick Ramp and Planting Bed
Adjacent to the existing shed, a blue brick ramp gently sloped down towards the new terrace across the rear of the property. A 1.85m x 700mm wide planting bed was created near the corner of the property, adding a touch of greenery to the area.
The Terrace and Pathways
The main wall of the property was adorned with a new terrace, extending from 3m from the house up to 4.15m as it approached the side of the new garden room. The terrace, framed by a single row of blue brick edging, was designed to accommodate a new patio table and chairs. Aco drains were installed to manage surface water effectively.
A blue brick path led up to the garden terrace from the house patio, with secondary access linking the house patio to the garden room patio. A multi-stemmed tree was a focal point in the centre, adding a touch of nature to the brickwork.
The Water Feature
A water feature with a small reservoir was constructed on the border adjacent to the garden room patio. The feature, clad using a porcelain style product from Pavestone’s Rock Stack Cladding, offered a focal point and a gentle sound of running water.
The Final Touches
The project was completed by creating new planting beds filled with fresh certified loam topsoil and installing a perforated drainage pipe to disperse surface water from the new garden room. The new terracing areas were laid using Discovery – Origin Grande (1200mm x 600mm x 20mm) from Pavestone, and a Rowlinson Garden Creations Vertical Screen was erected off the corner of the house.
