Although this project boasted great access which inevitably makes life easier on any landscaping project, the sheer volume of waste and material leaving and coming into site was astronomical. Although the garden is essentially in the countryside, the brief was to create a reasonably low maintenance garden and something which would enable better access, including a parking area at the front of the property.
The transformation at the front and rear of the property is total,with the ring shaped gravel driveway leading in off the cobbled threshold, edged in silver granite setts. The driveway then meets a spacious and accessible ramped path which takes you to the front door of the house. This paving product is another Italian porcelain, which boosts resistance to acid and alkali chemicals such as fertilisers and lawn treatments. Moss and algae cannot get established as it can in a porous stone face. Porcelain paving will not be affected by the seasonal weather changes and will not deteriorate in freezing weather conditions as some stone surfaces gradually can. Porcelain paving will not experience colour fading. Blacks will stay black and not turn to grey, light colours will stay light and will not turn grey/brown. In summary they will stay looking aesthetically as though newly laid for many years with minimal cleaning maintenance.
As you can see the products chosen are relatively uniformed and the theme stays the same throughout the whole garden, front and back. The rear mirrored split levelled terrace stands within a framework of slate cladding which faces all the walls and steps within this area of the garden, offering a great contrast with the pale paving product.
In the middle of the rear terrace is a two -tiered pond with a 80cm wide stainless steel blade which was made-to-measure. This area provides a relaxing zen feel whilst sitting out absorbing the view of fields with a back drop of the Malvern Hills.
Obviously with any larger countryside property, there will always be an element of maintenance involved in keeping your garden in good shape. We re-turfed approximately 1000sqm of new lawn which wraps around this property. We ensured we included steel edging or cobbles edging along the majority of grass areas in an effort to help keep mowing as simple as possible for the client.
Again, as with all our projects we recommend outdoor electrics including lighting in particularly dark areas of the garden and also steps. Here we introduced our approved electricians to the client who helped them plan their requirements.
